What Are Affiliate Programs?
Affiliate programs are sites that allow you to sell their products or services and receive a commission on the final sale price. Affiliate programs are a great way to make decent money on the internet. Some people even make a living by joining affiliate programs and helping other people sell their products or services online.
The person that gets the commission is known as the "affiliate" while the person that pays the affiliate the commission is know as the "merchant."
Affiliate Program Types
Here are the most commonly known types of affiliate programs:
- Pay Per Sale - This is the most common affiliate program type. The merchant will pay either a set amount per sale or a percentage of the sale, minus shipping and handling fees.
- Pay Per Lead - Also known as pay per action. This is when the merchant pays you for something like the surfer filling out a form to request more information.
- Pay Per Click - This is when the merchant pays you a certain rate for each time a surfer clicks on thier banner or text link and goes to their site. There aren't many merchants these days that will pay you this way because it is very open to fraud.
- CPM (pay per impression) - This is when the merchant pays a certain amount per 1,000 views of their banner ads. This method is mostly used for high traffic sites and sites with targeted traffic.
