These days it seems that most affiliates are hooked on datafeeds. Yes datafeeds are very conveniant and work well but so do product specific (or niche) sites. What I like to do is create a datafeed site for a merchant and then a few product specific sites for their best sellers. By product specific sites I mean dedicated sites per product, one domain per site.
How To Identify The Best Sellers
If you look at most merchants sites you will see that they most likely display their best sellers on their main page as either featured products, favorite products, most popular products, or best sellers. Also, if you already have a datafeed site and have gotten a good amount of sales you can ask the merchant what products your site is selling for them.
Another resource for finding best sellers is to start paying attention to the commercials and infomercials on television. Try to find merchants that sell those products and then join their affiliate program to then create sites for those particular products. Millions of potential customers will be searching the search engines for them so it is a good chance you will get some good sales from these sites you make for them.
Creating Your Niche Sites
Ok, now that you got the best selling items it is time to start creating your product sites for each one. Start with the one you think would do best first. If your host doesn't support multiple domains for one account then you should look for one that does. You can find one pretty quick searching google for "multiple domain hosting." These days hosting accounts are pretty affordable.
The Domain Name You should pick a domain name for your product site that is related to the product. For example, you do not want brownwidgets.com to promote an Ab Roller product. Also be careful if you use a domain name with the product name in it, alot of manufacturers and distributors will make you shut your site down for it if it infringes on their trademarks. So for something like the Ab Roller product you would have a domain like... six-pack-abs.com
Web Template Find or create your own clean professional looking web template to use for your niche site. Keep in mind that you will want as much text as you can get on them and the least amount of graphics since search engines will not read graphics. The more text you have on your site the more chance that a search engine will pick something up in someones search results.
Title Tag You will always want the product name in your title tag. An example would be "Ab Roller - As Seen On TV." You should try to stay away from words like and, or, etc... since most search engines do not read them and they will only take up valuable space.
Description Tag Again, put the product name in the description tag with a short description. An example would be "Buy the Ab Roller, as seen on tv, online at Merchantx.com."
Keywords Tag The keywords tag should include the product name like such "ab roller, buy ab roller, abroller, buy abroller, ab roller as seen on tv, as seen on tv abroller"
Body Of Web Page In the body of your product page you should try to describe the product the best you can and tell your visitors how it will benefit them by buying the product. Try not to copy and paste the exact content from the merchants site but mix it up a little bit to make your content unique. You should have the product name in the body as much as you can but not to the point where it sounds bad or looks bad.
Your niche product sites should not have any other advertisements on them. By putting more ads on them and distracting your visitors it pretty much defeats the purpose of everything.
One of the greatest things about making niche sites is that you can have them listed in the search engines pretty quickly, usually 24-72 hours. This is usually the amount of time it takes for Google and Yahoo to index new sites. But they must be able to find your new site so be sure to link it to another other sites that you may have so the Google and Yahoo bots can find it easily.
Give it a few days to start getting traffic. Be sure to monitor your traffic so you know where it is coming from and what keywords are being used to find your site. There are plenty of free tracking services such as StatsCounter that will give you all the information you need.
Once you are finished with your site, have your stats counter in place, and are waiting for the traffic and sales you can then start on your next site. Simply repeat the process you just did.
Good luck and have fun!
